FAMILY MEDICINE

  • Clinical chemistry – diagnosis of diseases such as diabetes, liver and kidney functionalities, and poisons or drug misuse
  • Cytology – investigatiion of cellular material from almost parts of the body (screening of cervical smears)
  • Hematology – studying the structures and functions of the different types of blood cells, counting blood cells, identifying abnormalities and estimating hemoglobin levels for diagnosis of anemia and leukemia.  Abnormalities of blood coagulation (clotting) are also studied.
  • Histopathology – investigation of tissue samples
  • Immunology – investigation of abnormalities and disturbances in immune system associated with conditions and diseases such as allergies, leukemia, tumors and AIDS.
  • Medical Microbiology – Identification of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, fungi and parasites, testing their susceptibility to antibodies.  Diseases diagnosed can include meningitis, food poisoning, urinary tract infections, tuberculosis and septicemia.
  • Transfusion science – Identification of individual blood groups and testing for the compatibility of donors’ blood with that of patients.
  • Virology – identification of viral infections such as Hepatitis, HIV, Dengue fever, Thyphoid fever, Malaria, Rubella and Influenza.
